After cooling and solidification, it forms the predetermined shape of the LED frame.
What is a Cold Runner in LED Plastic Frame Molds?
In plastic molds, a cold runner is an injection system that guides molten plastic from the injection molding machine nozzle to the mold cavity. The role of the cold runner in the injection process is to ensure the plastic smoothly and evenly fills the cavity, forming the desired plastic product.
Main Components of a Cold Runner System:
1.Main Runner: The channel connecting the injection machine nozzle to the mold’s secondary runners. Molten plastic first flows through the main runner into the mold.
2.Secondary Runners: Channels branching from the main runner, directing plastic to each cavity’s entrance.
3.Gates: The final portion through which plastic enters the cavity, typically designed as small holes or slits to control the flow rate and pressure of the plastic into the cavity.
Features of a Cold Runner System:
● Operates at Ambient Temperature: The cold runner system remains at ambient temperature during each injection cycle. After injection, the plastic in the runner cools and solidifies, being ejected along with the finished product.
● Waste Handling: The cooled runner plastic must be trimmed or separated from the finished product after each cycle, creating waste material.
